Karachi: The Sindh government has restricted airport pick and drop activity, allowing a maximum of two individuals to accompany each passenger, officials announced after a high-level security meeting chaired by the provincial home minister.
Senior officials, including the Home Secretary and the Inspector General of Sindh Police, attended the session and briefed the minister on the prevailing security situation. During the meeting, the home minister stressed the need for strict preventive measures in light of past incidents and accidents.
He directed authorities to draft comprehensive standard operating procedures to ensure a swift response to any emergency. Furthermore, he emphasized that overcrowding at airports poses security risks and requires stronger monitoring. As a result, officials will strictly enforce the new limit of one or two persons for pick and drop.
In addition, the minister instructed police to improve coordination with all law enforcement agencies across the province. He also ordered the installation and availability of search application devices in all prisons in Sindh to enhance internal security.
Moreover, authorities will now deploy female searchers at all provincial entry and exit points. Officials said this step aims to strengthen checking procedures while ensuring compliance with security protocols.
Meanwhile, the home minister directed departments to conduct a comprehensive security audit of important and sensitive installations. He also ordered a crackdown against the public display of weapons to maintain law and order.
Additionally, he reiterated the importance of fully implementing the National Action Plan to counter security threats effectively. Officials confirmed that departments will submit progress reports on these directives in the coming weeks.
