Kamil Khan Steps Down Ahead of PSL 11
The Sialkot Stallionz face major uncertainty before the 2026 Pakistan Super League season. Owner Kamil Khan has announced his exit from the franchise. His decision comes just one month before PSL 11 begins.
In a social media statement, Khan said he joined the franchise out of love for Pakistan cricket. He said he was leading the cricketing side of the project. He also highlighted early achievements during his short tenure.
Khan claimed he secured Australian star Steve Smith for the squad. He also brought in former Australia captain Tim Paine. In addition, he finalized a commercial partnership with New Balance.
He described the early phase as full of momentum. However, he said internal management decisions forced him to step away. He added that the decision had been made earlier. He delayed the announcement to ensure the franchise remained stable.
Khan stated that he wanted to leave the team โin safe hands.โ His departure has intensified speculation about deeper ownership issues.
Ownership Dispute and Financial Concerns Surface
Sources linked to the Pakistan Super League say a new party has agreed in principle to acquire over 90 percent shares of the Stallionz. This move could remove administrative control from OZ Group.
OZ Group, based in Australia, reportedly struggled to meet financial commitments. The group had secured the eighth PSL franchise for Rs 1.85 billion during the latest auction conducted by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Meanwhile, FKS Group won the seventh team for Rs 1.75 billion and cleared payments on time. Problems began when two OZ Group partners withdrew during the bidding process. They were reportedly concerned about rising franchise costs.
Although OZ Group avoided immediate termination by submitting a late bank guarantee, financial troubles persisted. Attempts to sell a 75 percent stake to another investor failed to generate expected funds. Public announcements were made in Lahore and Karachi. However, no confirmed investment materialized.
PSL regulations prevent a full ownership transfer within the first three years. Any new investor would join as a strategic partner instead of taking complete control.
Sources also suggest that PCB background checks flagged concerns regarding one existing ownerโs financial record. The potential incoming partner is believed to have stronger financial backing. An official update is expected next week.
Wasim Akram Distances Himself from Franchise
In another development, Wasim Akram confirmed he is no longer associated with the Stallionz. He said talks about becoming franchise president never moved beyond initial phone discussions. No formal agreement was signed.
The unfolding situation has created uncertainty ahead of PSL 11. Team stability remains a key concern for fans and players. Stakeholders now await clarity from the Pakistan Cricket Board.
With ownership questions unresolved and leadership changes underway, the Sialkot Stallionz face a crucial period. The coming days will determine the franchiseโs future in Pakistanโs premier T20 league.
