Over 4.5 Million Affected Across Punjab, PDMA Reports
As monsoon-triggered floods continue to wreak havoc across Punjab, a report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has identified Sialkot, Narowal, and Jhang as the three most severely affected districts. The situation has prompted large-scale rescue and relief operations, coordinated by local and provincial authorities.
Sialkot tops the list with 1,069 Mauzas (villages and some urban areas) impacted, affecting over 1.77 million people. Tragically, 24 people have lost their lives in the district due to rising floodwaters and associated hazards.
Narowal follows closely, with 908 Mauzas submerged, impacting 180,000 residents and resulting in four reported deaths. Meanwhile, Jhang has seen 313 Mauzas flooded, although no fatalities or injuries have been reported there so far.
In Gujrat, 214 Mauzas, including some urban zones, were affected and four deaths were confirmed. Other significantly impacted districts include Kasur (163), Hafizabad (165), Muzaffargarh (147), Bahawalnagar (143), Chiniot (144), and Khanewal (158), with each area reporting varying degrees of damage, displacement, and in some cases, loss of life.
Massive Evacuations, Relief Camps, and Medical Aid Ongoing
The PDMA report indicates that 4,744 Mauzas have been affected across Punjab due to overflow from major rivers—Chenab (2,489 Mauzas), Ravi (1,458), Sutlej (701), and Indus (96). More than 4.57 million people have been directly impacted by the flooding. So far, 101 lives have been lost, and eight people injured across the province.
Over 2.5 million people have been evacuated from high-risk zones, and more than 2 million livestock have been relocated to safer areas. In response, 392 relief camps have been established, providing shelter to 81,810 individuals.
Health and veterinary care have also been prioritized, with 493 medical camps treating 383,976 people, and 422 veterinary camps now in operation.
Meanwhile, Lahore Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza clarified that the one death earlier reported in Lahore was incorrect and likely a data entry error by Rescue 1122, stressing that no fatalities have occurred in the district.
