LAHORE: Shocking details have emerged in the murder case involving a senior Lahore police officer. Authorities confirmed DSP Usman Haider killed his wife and young daughter. Investigators revealed a property dispute played a central role in the killings. Police said a 10-marla plot became the source of prolonged family conflict.
Officials stated the DSP had two marriages at the time of the incident. He purchased the disputed plot in the name of his first wife. Later, he sold the property without her consent, police said. Investigators reported he used the sale proceeds for personal family expenses.
Suspect cites brother’s wedding as trigger
During interrogation, the suspect admitted using the money for his brother’s wedding. Police said this decision intensified tensions within the household. Family arguments reportedly escalated over ownership and financial control. Investigators believe the dispute continued for several months.
Police confirmed the DSP stabbed his wife to death during a confrontation. Officers recovered the murder weapon during the investigation. Authorities said forensic analysis supported the confession.
Missing persons case exposes crime
The case surfaced after the wife and daughter went missing. They disappeared from Lahore’s Burki area about one and a half months earlier. DSP Usman Haider initially reported the matter himself. He filed a First Information Report at Burki police station.
In the FIR, the DSP claimed unknown persons abducted his family members. He told police he returned home late from duty that night. The suspect said he found the house locked upon arrival. He claimed both mobile phones were switched off. The DSP said he searched for them but failed to locate them. Police initially treated the case as a possible abduction. However, officers grew suspicious due to inconsistencies.
Joint Investigation Team uncovers truth
Due to the case’s sensitive nature, authorities formed a Joint Investigation Team. Senior officers reviewed call records and movement data. Investigators questioned the DSP multiple times during the probe. Eventually, the suspect confessed to killing both victims.
Police recovered one body from Lahore’s Kahna area. Authorities later recovered the second body from Sheikhupura district. Officials said both recoveries supported the suspect’s confession.
Administrative action follows arrest
Following the confession, Lahore police formally arrested the DSP. The Inspector General of Police Punjab ordered his immediate suspension. At the time, the suspect served in the Kahna Investigation Wing.
Authorities removed him from active duty pending further proceedings.
A police spokesperson said the delayed missing persons report raised alarms. Officers noted gaps in the suspect’s timeline. These discrepancies prompted deeper scrutiny of his statements.
Investigation continues amid public outrage
Police said further investigations are underway to complete legal formalities. Authorities vowed strict action without institutional favoritism. The case has triggered public outrage and calls for accountability. Officials emphasized that no one remains above the law.
