Leaders highlight Pakistanโs role in US-Iran engagement
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Thursday, during which both leaders reviewed ongoing diplomatic efforts and the broader regional security situation.
During the call, Prime Minister Meloni congratulated Pakistan on its successful diplomatic engagement in facilitating a ceasefire and encouraging renewed negotiations between the United States and Iran. Furthermore, she praised Islamabadโs role in hosting the upcoming US-Iran peace talks, describing it as a meaningful step toward de-escalation and constructive dialogue.
In response, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistanโs commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region. He also welcomed the recent joint statement issued by key European and international leaders, including Italy, which supported Pakistanโs diplomatic initiatives. Moreover, he stressed that dialogue and cooperation remain essential tools for addressing complex geopolitical challenges.
Concern over Lebanon conflict and need for global coordination
Meanwhile, both leaders expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in Lebanon. They emphasized the urgent need for coordinated international action to prevent further escalation and humanitarian consequences.
Additionally, the two prime ministers agreed that sustained diplomatic engagement and collective efforts by the global community are crucial to achieving lasting peace and stability. They underlined the importance of multilateral cooperation in resolving conflicts and maintaining regional balance.
