The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday extended the stay order preventing the arrest of former President Arif Alvi until January 13. The court also summoned records from the Inspector General of Sindh regarding the cases registered against him.
A constitutional bench, led by Justice Karim Khan Agha and Justice Adnanul Karim, expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of details about the cases registered against Alvi. Justice Adnanul Karim questioned the accountability within the police, asking, “If the IG Sindh is not responsible, then who is?”
The Sindh additional advocate general informed the court that the cases against Alvi had been filed in Punjab, where he had obtained bail from the SHC. He requested additional time to gather records from relevant authorities.
Justice Adnanul Karim raised concerns about the potential concealment of FIRs, while Justice Karim Khan Agha noted that the court had summoned records to address these concerns.
The Assistant Attorney General submitted a report from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), stating that no cases had been registered against Alvi with the agency.
The court granted time to provide details of the cases registered in the province and adjourned the hearing until January 13. It also extended the stay order, directing that Alvi should not be arrested in any new cases.
