Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi has appointed national Test captain Shan Masood as the new Director of International Cricket Operations, following the removal of Usman Wahla from the position. The announcement was made by Naqvi during a formal dinner held in Islamabad on Friday, where senior board officials and players were also present.
The appointment marks a new phase in Shan Masood’s career, combining his ongoing role as Pakistan’s red-ball captain with a key administrative responsibility in shaping international cricket operations. The move is being viewed as part of the PCB’s broader strategy to bring active cricketers and former players into leadership and management roles to bridge the gap between on-field and off-field decision-making.
According to insiders, Masood’s appointment was finalised after internal consultations within the board. PCB sources said the board expects the Test captain’s international experience, professionalism, and understanding of modern cricket dynamics to play a major role in improving Pakistan’s coordination with global cricketing bodies.
Wahla Removed from Post; PCB Seeks Former Cricketers for Key Roles
The decision comes shortly after the removal of Usman Wahla from his position as Director of International Cricket Operations. The PCB has since advertised the vacancy for the post, inviting applications from former international cricketers who have represented Pakistan in either Test or One Day International (ODI) formats. The deadline for submissions has been set for November 2.
Wahla’s removal follows earlier reports of disciplinary concerns, including a suspension related to delayed action during a rain-affected Asia Cup match against India. Sources within the PCB have indicated that Wahla may soon be reassigned to a senior role within the Pakistan Super League (PSL), though discussions on his transfer are still ongoing.
The PCB’s latest administrative reshuffle reflects a renewed focus on professional accountability and transparency, with Chairman Naqvi emphasizing the need to modernize Pakistan’s cricket management and involve current and former players in key operational areas.
