LIVERPOOL โย Benjamin Sesko’s stunning late winner and Senne Lammens’ goalkeeping heroics lifted Manchester United to a 1-0 victory at Everton on Monday, extending their unbeaten Premier League run to 10 matches and strengthening their grip on a top-four spot .
๐ธ๐ฎ Sesko: The Super-Sub Strikes Again
Sesko came off the bench to score the only goal of the game in the 71st minute, his sixth in seven games and eighth of the season . The goal was a testament to his endurance and composureโhe sprinted 70 yards after laying off a pass to Matheus Cunha, then calmly slotted home Bryan Mbeumo’s square pass .
“It was a great finish, a ruthless finish,” said United head coach Michael Carrick. “I like the way he put it away with real confidence” .
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, watching for Sky Sports, was equally impressed. “Sesko has gone over 80 yards and then finishes. You expect him to be breathing heavily and panting after that. But no, he still has the energy to really celebrate” .
Remarkably, Sesko scored only twice under former manager Ruben Amorim, who signed him from RB Leipzig for ยฃ73.7m in August 2025 . Now he has six in his latest seven games, sparking debate about why he hasn’t started any of the six matches since Carrick took charge .
Carrick understands the discussion but isn’t concerned. “I get why everyone is talking about it and making a big deal of it, but it is not always as extreme. He obviously wants to play, but we have got some good forwards and I can’t speak highly enough of how he has been” .
Sesko himself remains focused on impact over minutes. “I believe in me and so do the other players. They know what they are going to get when I arrive in the game. Whether that is five minutes or 90 minutes, it doesn’t really matter” .
๐ง๐ช Lammens: The Wall at the Other End
If Sesko broke Everton’s hearts at one end, goalkeeper Senne Lammens did it at the other. The 23-year-old Belgian, signed for ยฃ18.1m from the Belgian league with just one full senior season behind him, produced a stunning display .
Lammens kept out a blockbuster strike from Michael Keane that Everton manager David Moyes “felt sure was going in,” then dealt superbly with a series of corners as Everton pushed for an equalizer .
“Their goalie was brilliant tonight,” Moyes said bluntly. “The save he made from Michael, the way he dealt with corner kicks. The pressure we had. For me, their goalkeeper was the best player” .
Carrick drew comparisons to his former United teammate and all-time great Edwin van der Sar, who was analyzing the game on TV. “I’ve got to be careful what I say. I don’t want to be comparing them because I don’t think it’s fair to Senne. But there’s definitely similarities” .
“You want a goalkeeper to be reliable and trustworthy. Instead of creating chaos, you want him to take the chaos away and calm things down. I think Senne is that” .
