Sudden Withdrawal of Security Raises Judicial Alarm
A serious security controversy unfolded in Islamabad as armed protection for district judges was abruptly withdrawn without prior notice. The move triggered immediate concern over the safety of judicial officers, especially those handling sensitive or high-profile cases in sessions and district courts.
According to reports, armed gunmen previously assigned to judges were also removed. The withdrawal has caused unease within the judiciary, with fears rising about potential threats in the absence of security.
Judge Issues Notice, Orders DIG to Appear in Court
In response, District and Sessions Judge Nasir Javed Rana took swift action. He issued a show-cause notice to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Security, demanding an explanation for the unauthorised withdrawal of security personnel.
The judge further directed DIG Operations to personally appear in court today (Friday) to justify the move. The court order makes it clear that a detailed explanation must be provided to clarify who authorised the decision and why no consultation took place.
The issue is now being treated with urgency by the Islamabad Sessions Court. The judge emphasized that withdrawing protection from judicial officers could compromise their independence and safety.
Growing Concern Over Safety of Judicial Officers
The situation has sparked wider debate about the protection of judicial personnel, especially as Pakistan’s courts continue to oversee politically and legally sensitive cases. Legal experts have stressed the importance of ensuring uninterrupted security for judges to allow them to perform their duties without fear or pressure.
The outcome of the DIG’s court appearance will likely determine whether security for judges is reinstated or if alternative protection measures will be considered.
