Islamabad: Authorities closed several roads leading to the Red Zone in Islamabad on Thursday due to heightened security concerns, the Islamabad Traffic Police announced.
According to officials, entry into the highly secured Red Zone will now be permitted only through Margalla Road and the route near the Marriott Hotel. Meanwhile, authorities have closed all other access points to maintain security and manage traffic flow in sensitive areas.
The traffic police advised citizens to cooperate with the new traffic arrangements and follow designated alternative routes to avoid inconvenience during the restrictions.
Key roads sealed, alternative routes announced
As part of the traffic plan, authorities closed Kulsoom Plaza on Fazal Haq Road near China Chowk for traffic. Consequently, commuters have been advised to use Jinnah Avenue as an alternative route to reach their destinations.
Similarly, traffic near Polyclinic Hospital at Lal Quarter Chowk on Luqman Hakeem Road will face diversions. Officials instructed drivers to use Saddar Road instead to avoid congestion in the affected area.
Furthermore, motorists traveling from the G-6 sector toward F-6 have been directed to take the China Chowk Underpass or Seventh Avenue to connect with Jinnah Avenue. Traffic police said these routes will help maintain smoother traffic movement despite the closures.
Traffic diversions near key intersections
Meanwhile, authorities will divert traffic coming from Aabpara Chowk toward Suhrawardy Road near Serena Hotel. Drivers traveling from Club Road have been advised to proceed toward Kashmir Chowk and then use Srinagar Highway before connecting to Seventh Avenue or Margalla Road.
Likewise, commuters arriving from Bhara Kahu have been instructed to take Srinagar Highway and move through Kashmir Chowk toward Seventh Avenue and Margalla Road.
The Islamabad Traffic Police urged citizens to follow the announced traffic plan, remain patient, and use alternative routes to ensure smooth movement across the capital.
