ISLAMABAD: Security agencies in Punjab have successfully identified and mapped more than 25,000 individuals connected with different banned militant organizations operating within the province.
As per sources, surveillance has been initiated on these individuals as part of a proactive strategy to bolster security measures and thwart potential terrorist activities.
A detailed counter-terrorism report indicates that among the identified individuals, 8,926 are linked with a specific banned organization. Moreover, the report underscores that 968 individuals harbor ideologies aligned with the Islamic State or Daesh, a notorious terrorist group.
Additionally, mapping endeavors have focused on 397 individuals associated with the banned terrorist outfit, al-Qaeda.
In the scope of these mapping efforts, 1,470 individuals affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have been identified. They are implicated in various support roles, including financial assistance within the province.
The mapping initiative doesn’t only encompass terrorist organizations but also includes individuals affiliated with diverse religious parties. Security sources emphasize the comprehensive nature of this approach, aimed at addressing all potential sources of extremism and terrorism within Punjab.
Upon the completion of the Counter-Terrorism Mapping Report, security officials have furnished the findings to the Punjab government for further necessary actions.
Meanwhile, during a press briefing in Washington, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller highlighted a recent discussion between Secretary of State and Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
Miller emphasized the robust partnership between the two nations, focusing on mutual prosperity.
The conversation, Miller noted, delved into various critical areas such as counter-terrorism efforts, trade, and investment partnerships.
Additionally, there was a reaffirmation of the importance of collaboration on women’s empowerment initiatives, reflecting the shared commitment to gender equality.
Addressing inquiries regarding India’s alleged involvement in the killing of Pakistani citizens, the spokesperson mentioned that they are closely monitoring media reports on the matter.
However, he refrained from offering specific comments on the allegations, indicating a cautious approach towards sensitive geopolitical issues.
Furthermore, Miller reiterated Washington’s encouragement for Pakistan and India to prioritize dialogue as a primary mechanism for de-escalating tensions and seeking peaceful resolutions to their differences.
