Gawadar: The Balochistan government announced on Wednesday to impose section 144 in the port city for a month following the death of a cop during protests by the “Haq Do Tehreek,” the home department said.
The Balochistan Home Minister Ziaullah Langove ordered the registration of an first information report (FIR) against Haq do Tehreek Chairman Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman on Tuseday, over the martyrdom of the policeman.
Balochistan Police claims that firing by the protestors led to the martyrdom of Constable Yasir Saeed deployed for their protection.
Under section 144, rallies, sit-ins, and any other public gathering of over five people have been prohibited. The government has also prohibited the display of weapons.
Chief Minister Balochistan said โSuch incidents are intolerable. And that an FIR must be lodged against the Chairman of the rights movement. He directed the law enforcement agencies to arrest the suspects involved in the incident that claimed cops life. The CM also sought the report of the incident.
The HDT was protesting in Gawadarย for nearly eight weeks under the leadership of Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman.
Balochistan government spokesperson Farah Azeem alleged that the protestors tried to shut the Gwadar port. This led to police action that arrested some of them. She added that the movement’s attitude is provocative.
While the protestors demand a reduction in check posts, easier border trade. They also want a total end to deep-sea fish trawling in the sea next to Gwadar.
Theย Coastal Highwayย remains blocked since Monday in protest near Gwadar’s Sarbandan area, after the police arrested seven backers of the Haq do Tehreek, including their leader Hussain Wadala.
