Authorities Announce Sweeping Security Restrictions
Quetta: The Balochistan Home Department imposed Section 144 across the province for one month, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday. Authorities introduced the measure to strengthen security and prevent potential unrest.
Under the order, officials banned the display and use of firearms and prohibited pillion riding throughout the province. In addition, the government barred vehicles with tinted windows and restricted the movement of unregistered motorcycles. Authorities also outlawed public gatherings of five or more people, along with rallies and processions.
Furthermore, the order prohibits individuals from covering their faces in public using mufflers or masks. Officials also banned the transportation of acid and explosive materials within districts to reduce security risks.
Law Enforcement Given Broad Powers
Meanwhile, the government granted full authority to police, Levies, and the Frontier Corps to enforce the restrictions strictly. Security personnel will monitor compliance and take immediate action against violations.
Officials confirmed that authorities will prosecute violators under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code and other relevant laws. They emphasized that strict enforcement aims to maintain law and order during the enforcement period.
Additionally, the Home Department directed the Deputy Commissioner of Quetta to submit daily implementation reports. The reports will help authorities assess compliance levels and address emerging challenges promptly.
Through these measures, provincial authorities seek to deter unlawful activities and strengthen public safety. However, officials have not specified whether they will extend the restrictions beyond the initial month.
The provincial government stated that it will review the situation regularly and adjust security measures if necessary.
