ISLAMABAD: Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is currently developing a redesigned call menu feature that will enhance the user experience in both individual and group chats. According to WABetaInfo, the new feature is being tested with some beta users and is expected to roll out in a future update.
The upcoming feature introduces a call link option, allowing users to quickly generate call links directly within the chat interface. This new functionality, accessible via the attachment sheet in the chat bar, aims to simplify the process of initiating voice or video calls.
WhatsApp is also working on refining the call options by redesigning the call buttons in the app’s top bar for both individual and group chats. Currently, separate buttons exist for voice and video calls, and tapping either one initiates the call immediately. This can sometimes lead to accidental calls.
In the future, WhatsApp plans to unify the two call buttons into a single menu. This redesigned call menu will not only simplify the process of initiating calls but also include additional tools for better call management. Users will be able to create call links directly from the menu, allowing for easier sharing without navigating to the calls tab or attachment menu.
To prevent unintentional calls, the new call interface will require users to first choose their preferred call option, adding an extra confirmation step. This redesign will enhance flexibility, reduce accidental dial-outs, and improve the overall usability of WhatsApp’s calling features, particularly in group chats.
