WhatsApp is set to improve user interaction with a new feature in its latest beta update. Part of beta version 2.24.20.3, this functionality is currently available to select users through the Google Play Beta Program, with a wider release expected in the coming weeks.
The new feature allows users to tag contacts directly in their status updates via a button in the caption bar. Once a contact is tagged, they receive a private notification informing them of the mention.
Importantly, this notification is discreet—only the tagged person is aware of the mention, while other viewers remain unaware of any specific tags within the status. Moreover, tagged contacts will always have access to the status update, even if the sender’s privacy settings would normally restrict them from viewing it.
This ensures that important updates reach the tagged individuals, regardless of broader privacy restrictions. Additionally, a reshare button enables tagged contacts to share the status with their own audience. However, the identity of the original creator remains confidential, and viewers of the reshared status will not have direct access to the creator.
This feature is designed to boost engagement by making sure crucial updates are shared effectively while maintaining privacy and control over interactions.
