In an effort to improve user communication, WhatsApp, under its parent company Meta, has introduced four new text formatting options. These options, which include bulleted lists, numbered lists, block quotes, and inline code, aim to streamline messaging processes and enhance communication effectiveness among users.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, announced this update via his WhatsApp Channel on February 21, highlighting the significance of these features in saving time and improving communication dynamics, especially within group chats.
To utilize these formatting tools, users need to follow simple steps. For example, creating a bulleted list involves using hyphens followed by a space, while a numbered list starts with a numeral and a period.

Block quotes can be created using the Greater Than arrow key followed by a space, and inline code can be inserted by pressing the accent symbol, followed by a single space.
These new formatting options complement WhatsApp’s existing text enhancement features, such as bold, italic, strikethrough, and monospace functionalities. Meta has ensured that these features are not limited to one-on-one chats but are also available across Channels within the platform.
The rollout of these updates extends to WhatsApp’s Android, iOS, Mac, and web browser platforms, ensuring accessibility across various devices. While the update is gradually being deployed, some users are already experiencing its benefits on the web version.
Meta’s commitment to enhancing WhatsApp’s capabilities reflects its dedication to providing users with a seamless and enriched messaging experience. As these new features become more widely available, users can anticipate more organized and efficient conversations in both personal and group settings.
