Here’s How to Use WhatsApp Without Internet Using the New Proxy Feature

WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging app owned by Meta, has launched an innovative feature designed to keep communication flowing even when internet access is disrupted.

This new proxy technology allows users to connect to WhatsApp through servers set up by volunteers and organizations dedicated to supporting free speech worldwide. The feature responds to increasing instances of internet blackouts, such as those experienced in Iran, which have severely hindered communication.

With these proxy servers, WhatsApp users can stay in touch with friends and family despite network interruptions. Importantly, WhatsApp has assured users that their privacy will remain intact when using these proxy servers. Messages will continue to be encrypted end-to-end, ensuring that only the intended recipient can view them. This encryption extends to the proxy servers, WhatsApp, and Meta, keeping communications private and secure.

This initiative highlights WhatsApp’s dedication to maintaining a reliable communication channel in regions where internet outages are common and seen as a violation of human rights. By offering this proxy solution, WhatsApp aims to reduce the impact of these disruptions and ensure users can access secure and dependable communication channels.

Connecting Via Proxy:

For those looking to use this feature, here’s how to connect to a proxy server;

For Android users:

  1. Ensure WhatsApp is updated to the latest version.
  2. Open WhatsApp and navigate to “More options” > “Settings.”
  3. Select “Storage and Data,” then “Proxy.”
  4. Toggle the “Use Proxy” option.
  5. Enter the proxy address and tap “Set Proxy.”
  6. Click “Save.” A checkmark will appear to confirm a successful connection. If you encounter issues, you can delete the blocked proxy address and try a different one.

For iPhone users:

  1. Update WhatsApp to the latest version.
  2. Open WhatsApp and go to “Settings.”
  3. Select “Storage and Data,” then “Proxy.”
  4. Toggle the “Use Proxy” option.
  5. Enter the proxy address and tap “Save.” A checkmark will confirm a successful connection.

It’s important to note that using a third-party proxy will share your IP address with the proxy provider. WhatsApp does not provide third-party proxies, so users should exercise caution when choosing a proxy.
