ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: In a recent development, the Punjab Home Department has formally requested the federal government to implement a partial suspension of mobile services in ten districts across the province during the Chehlum of Imam Hussain (RA) on August 27.

This decision comes in response to a police request aimed at maintaining public order during the significant religious observance.

According to the notification issued, the mobile service suspension will take effect from 5 AM to 11 PM on the specified date.

The districts affected by this measure include Rawalpindi, Jhang, Layyah, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Chakwal, and Toba Tek Singh. Importantly, mobile services will remain operational in all other districts of Punjab, including Lahore.

The suspension of mobile services is intended to manage and mitigate potential security risks during the Chehlum processions and gatherings.

This step is part of a broader effort to ensure that the event proceeds smoothly without disruptions that could arise from potential security threats or other complications.

The Chehlum, which marks the end of the mourning period for Imam Hussain (RA), is observed with significant processions and public gatherings.

Given the high turnout and the importance of the event, authorities are taking precautionary measures to prevent any disturbances and to provide a secure environment for participants.

In preparation for the event, the Punjab Home Department’s request highlights the focus on public safety and the management of large crowds.

By temporarily suspending mobile services in these key districts, the government aims to prevent any misuse of communication channels that could potentially pose a threat to the safety and security of the public.

This decision aligns with similar security measures that have been taken in the past during major religious and public events.

The temporary suspension of mobile services is seen as a necessary step to ensure that the Chehlum observance is carried out without incident and that public safety is maintained throughout the duration of the event.
