Facebook takes legal action against Israeli firm for alleged data collection

Facebook takes legal action against Israeli firm for alleged data collection:

Meta, Facebook’s parent company, is suing Israeli spy firm Voyager Labs for allegedly collecting data from 600,000 users without their permission.

According to the lawsuit, the company created tens of thousands of bogus accounts in order to gain access to data on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms.

According to The Guardian, Facebook has already removed 38,000 fake profiles created by Voyager Labs.

The Israeli company’s international offices work alongside an Israeli research and development division.

According to the lawsuit, Voyager Labs used surveillance software to collect data from Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Telegram users, including posts, likes, friends, photos, comments, and information from groups and pages.

Meta discovered these actions in July 2022.

This legal action is part of Facebook’s ongoing efforts to combat the digital spying and surveillance industry.

The lawsuit also draws attention to a previously unknown market of businesses, including Voyager Labs, that specialise in gathering data from social networks.

The legal action against Voyager Labs sheds light on the larger market for data scraping and surveillance, in which Israel is a major player.

According to the lawsuit, the company created thousands of fake accounts in order to access data from social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
