Elon Musk, the owner of the social media platform X, is set to restrict live streaming capabilities to premium subscribers only, as reported by Deadline.
The official @Live account on X announced this change, stating, “Starting soon, only Premium subscribers will be able to livestream (create live video streams) on X. This includes going live from an encoder with X integration. Upgrade to Premium to continue going live.”
However, the post did not specify when this change would take effect.
This move is part of Musk’s ongoing efforts to boost revenue for his company. Earlier this year, Musk, 52, proposed charging a “small fee” for new users to post immediately after creating an account to combat spam and bots. Users who don’t pay would only be able to read posts from other accounts.
Deadline noted that X’s subscription service includes three tiers: Basic, Premium, and Premium+.
The Basic tier offers features such as post editing, longer posts and video uploads, reply prioritization, text formatting, bookmark folders, custom app icons, and more.
The Premium tier includes all Basic features and adds a blue checkmark, fewer ads, creator subscriptions, participation in ad revenue sharing, and additional benefits.
Premium+ users receive all features from the Basic and Premium tiers, along with no ads in the “For You” or “Following” tabs, a larger reply boost, and the ability to write articles.
