The Supreme Court’s (SC) Additional Registrar, Nazar Abbas, was appointed Officer on Special Duty (OSD) on Tuesday, tasked with overseeing the scheduling of cases for the constitutional bench in the regular bench. This appointment follows an office order issued by the additional registrar for administrative matters.
This move comes after Justice Mansoor Ali Shah’s constitutional bench issued a contempt of court notice to Abbas, directing him to appear before the apex court in person. The situation arose from concerns regarding the non-scheduling of important cases.
In a separate development, three senior SC judges, including Justice Shah, Justice Ayesha Malik, and Justice Aqeel Abbasi, sent a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi. In the letter, the judges expressed their concerns about the delay in scheduling the critical “bench powers” case, calling it a violation of judicial orders and contempt of court. The letter also addressed Justice Aminuddin Khan, highlighting objections regarding the failure to hear the case on January 20, despite prior directives.
