Extraordinary Gesture Ends Co-Wife’s Years-Long Health Struggle
TAIF – In an inspiring display of selflessness, a Saudi woman has donated 80% of her liver to her husband’s second wife, giving her a new lease on life after years of battling kidney failure.
According to Saudi Gazette, Noura Salem Al-Shammari, the first wife of Majed Baldah Al-Roqi, made the life-saving decision after witnessing her co-wife, Taghreed Awadh Al-Saadi, endure long-term dialysis and a failed attempt at treatment in the United States.
Taghreed had suffered from kidney failure for several years. After exhausting treatment options abroad, she returned to Saudi Arabia, where her husband, Al-Roqi, planned to donate one of his kidneys to help her. Fearing complications, he entrusted the care of their five children to his first wife, Noura.
But in a deeply emotional twist, Noura stunned her family by announcing her decision to donate the majority of her liver instead. “She made the decision purely for the sake of God,” Al-Roqi told Okaz newspaper, adding that her generosity had left him “astonished and humbled.”
Medical tests confirmed tissue compatibility, and the transplant procedure was carried out successfully. Al-Roqi praised Noura’s act as nothing short of miraculous:
“She came like rain to revive a barren desert,” he said, describing the emotional relief and gratitude felt by the entire family.
The story has since captured widespread attention in Saudi Arabia and beyond, with many praising Noura’s rare compassion, strength, and devotion to her family—transcending personal relationships for the greater good.
