Saudi Arabia has welcomed a temporary ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan during Eid al-Fitr. Saudi Arabia calledย it a positive step toward de-escalation.
The pause in military operations was announced on Wednesday by both Islamabad and Kabul, just days after a deadly strike on a drug rehabilitation centre in the Afghan capital. While Afghan officials described the site as civilian, Pakistan maintained it had targeted an arms depot.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said it appreciated the response of both countries to calls for restraint made by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkiye. It emphasised that prioritising dialogue and peaceful solutions remains the most effective way to resolve disputes.
Furthermore, Riyadh reiterated its commitment to ongoing diplomatic engagement, stating that it would continue working with regional and international partners to promote stability. The ministry added that sustained cooperation is essential to prevent further escalation and maintain peace.
Consequently, the ceasefire has raised cautious optimism among observers, who see it as an opportunity for both sides to reduce tensions, even if temporarily. However, analysts note that long-term stability will depend on continued dialogue and confidence-building measures.
Saudi Arabia underscored that it remains committed to supporting initiatives aimed at ensuring security across the region.
