Global Coalition Formed to Back PA Amid Gaza Crisis
Saudi Arabia has announced the formation of an emergency international coalition to provide urgent financial support to the Palestinian Authority (PA). The announcement was made by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan during a press conference in New York, held on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly.
Prince Faisal revealed that Riyadh will contribute $90 million as part of the initiative, which aims to stabilise the PA and support its governance in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. He stated that the effort involves multiple international partners and is tied to wider discussions around reviving the two-state solution.
The coalition was discussed at the Global Alliance for Implementation of the Two-State Solution, attended by foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Norway, and other Arab and European nations.
International Support Grows for Two-State Solution and PA Role in Gaza
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty expressed openness to deploying international forces in Gaza under a UN mandate to help the PA administer the territory. He said there was growing consensus for a transitional Palestinian administration in Gaza — one that excludes all armed factions.
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi reinforced this stance, stating that the only viable path to peace is through a two-state solution, but warned that Israeli government policies remain a major barrier. He accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of actively blocking peace efforts, citing continued settlement expansion, land confiscation, and recent military actions in Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon.
The first official meeting of this coalition took place in Riyadh in October 2024, after its launch was announced in September.
Earlier that day, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas addressed the UN General Assembly, reaffirming the PA’s readiness to govern Gaza, including assuming security and administrative responsibilities and disarming factions.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump reportedly introduced a 21-point Middle East peace plan in a separate meeting with Arab and Islamic leaders in New York. According to reports from Axios, the plan includes a permanent ceasefire, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and a new, Hamas-free administration supported by a multinational force and Arab funding.
