Saudi Arabia’s Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) confirmed the arrest of 134 public sector employees in September. The action formed part of its continuing campaign against corruption across the Kingdom. Officials revealed that some detainees were later released on bail while investigations continued.
Large-Scale Investigations and Inspections
According to Nazaha, the arrests came after investigations involving 387 individuals suspected of corruption-related offenses. Throughout September, the authority conducted 2,662 inspections across several regions. These operations helped uncover cases ranging from bribery to misuse of authority.
Nazaha emphasized that the campaign reflects the Kingdom’s zero-tolerance approach toward corruption. Moreover, it aims to protect public funds and ensure transparency in governance.
Ministries Affected by the Crackdown
Those arrested worked in several high-profile ministries. The list included the Ministries of Interior, National Guard, Defense, Municipalities and Housing, Education, Health, Justice, and Hajj and Umrah.
Authorities confirmed that both criminal and administrative cases have been filed. Charges included bribery, forgery, and abuse of power. These actions demonstrated the scale and seriousness of corruption issues uncovered during the investigations.
Commitment to Transparency and Accountability
The authority stated that ongoing inspections would continue across government departments in the coming months. Therefore, further arrests remain possible as investigations expand. Nazaha stressed that accountability will apply to all officials regardless of their rank or position.
Saudi leadership has repeatedly expressed determination to eliminate corruption and strengthen institutional integrity. Consequently, these measures aim to restore public trust and promote a fair administrative environment.
By acting decisively, the Kingdom seeks to reinforce its commitment to reform, justice, and the protection of national resources.
