The Saudi Arabian Cabinet approved the formation of an independent entity “The Presidency of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophetโs Mosque”. It will be directly associated with King Salman.
This entity will assume the responsibility of overseeing the activities of imams and muezzins at the two holy mosques. The organization will also manage all matters concerning their religious duties such as seminars and Islamic teachings.

Pilgrims are performing Umrah in Makkah and Madinah.
The existing organization, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, will undergo a transformation. It will be named into as the “General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophetโs Mosque.”
This new authority will operate with financial autonomy, maintain a direct link to the king. Saudi government will engage it in services, operations, maintenance, and enhancements pertaining to the two holy mosques.
Makkah and Madinah Mosques Board of Directors
A Board of Directors will govern the General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophetโs Mosque.
Through a royal order, Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais has been designated as the head of religious affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophetโs Mosque. Simultaneously, Tawfiq Al-Rabiah has been appointed as the chairman of the board of directors for the General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophetโs Mosque.
The Cabinet also deliberated on discussions surrounding the Ukraine crisis, which took place in Jeddah the previous week. Over 40 nations, including China, India, the United States, and various European countries, participated in these discussions.
These talks align with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salmanโs endeavors to achieve enduring peace and mitigate the repercussions of the crisis.
Furthermore, the Cabinet reaffirmed its support for the precautionary measures the OPEC+ took to stabilize the oil market.
