Saudi Arabia has conferred the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellent Class on Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, as senior officials from both countries held talks on regional security dynamics and evolving geopolitical challenges. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the development on Monday.
In a statement, the militaryโs media wing said the award was granted under a royal decree issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The ISPR described the medal as the kingdomโs highest national honour, underscoring the significance of the recognition.
During his official visit to Saudi Arabia, Field Marshal Munir met Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. According to ISPR, the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, including defence and military cooperation, strategic collaboration, and responses to emerging regional and global challenges. Both sides exchanged views on security developments affecting the wider region.
Furthermore, the interaction reaffirmed the deep-rooted, historic, and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Officials from both countries emphasised their shared commitment to strengthening strategic ties and enhancing coordination on defence and security matters. As a result, the talks highlighted continuity in bilateral engagement despite shifting geopolitical realities.
Recognition of military leadership and cooperation
The ISPR said the King Abdulaziz Medal recognised Field Marshal Munirโs distinguished military service, leadership, and contributions to advancing defence cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. It added that the honour acknowledged his role in strengthening strategic coordination and institutional linkages between the armed forces of the two countries.
In addition, the statement noted that the award reflected Field Marshal Munirโs contributions to regional peace and stability. These efforts include sustained collaboration in counter-terrorism initiatives and broader security cooperation aimed at addressing shared threats. Over the years, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have worked closely on training, defence exchanges, and security assistance.
Saudi leadership, according to ISPR, conveyed its appreciation for Field Marshal Munirโs professionalism, strategic vision, and commitment to reinforcing bilateral relations. The Saudi side also acknowledged Pakistanโs continued role as a reliable partner in regional security efforts.
Pakistan reiterates commitment to Saudi security
Meanwhile, Field Marshal Munir expressed gratitude to King Salman and the Saudi leadership for the honour. He described the award as a reflection of the enduring bonds and mutual trust between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Moreover, he reaffirmed Pakistanโs commitment to the kingdomโs security, stability, and prosperity.
The visit and the conferment of the medal come at a time when both countries seek closer coordination in response to evolving geopolitical and security challenges. Observers say the development signals continuity in Pakistan-Saudi defence ties and highlights their shared approach to regional stability.
