KARACHI: Businessman Salman Farooqi has been booked in a criminal case following a widely circulated video showing him assaulting a motorcyclist in Karachiโs Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area.
The case, registered at Gizri Police Station, includes charges of assault, issuing death threats, unlawful confinement, and public humiliation. It was filed on the complaint of eyewitness Muhammad Saleem, a sales manager at a mobile company.
According to Saleem, the incident occurred near Ittehad Commercial when a minor road mishap took place involving Farooqiโs vehicle and a motorcyclist accompanied by women. Rather than resolving the issue peacefully, Farooqi allegedly attacked the motorcyclist.
Saleem further alleged that Farooqi, with the help of an armed security guard, forcibly detained the motorcyclist inside his car at gunpoint. The victim was reportedly subjected to physical violence, verbal abuse, and repeated threats. The women accompanying the motorcyclist pleaded for him to stop, but Farooqi allegedly pushed them away and continued his assault.
Videos of the incident, filmed by bystanders, quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage.
Police say efforts are underway to locate the victim and his family to support the investigation. Raids are being conducted at multiple locations to apprehend Farooqi, who is reportedly on the run.
