The number of casualties from a recent incident close to Moscow has increased to 115 individuals, as reported by Russia’s Investigative Committee on Saturday. This tragic event followed a shooting at a concert venue in the city on Thursday.
Over 11 individuals, including four suspected assailants, have been detained by Russian officials in relation to the mass shooting incident that resulted in numerous concert attendees being injured. This horrific act of violence has been attributed to the terrorist group Daesh.
On Saturday, the Kremlin released a statement indicating that President Vladimir Putin had been informed by FSB security service head, Alexander Bortnikov, about the presence of “four terrorists” within the group of detained suspects. Additionally, the statement highlighted that efforts were ongoing to uncover the identities of their potential accomplices.
The Russian Investigative Committee reported that the number of casualties from the Crocus City Hall attack has risen to 115. This incident occurred at a location on the outskirts of Moscow, where individuals in camouflage clothing used automatic weapons to target concert attendees on a Friday night.
Russian legislator Alexander Khinshtein mentioned that the assailants escaped using a Renault car, which was later detected by local authorities in the Bryansk area, approximately 210 miles southwest of Moscow, on Friday evening. They disregarded orders to halt their vehicle.
He mentioned that following a car pursuit, two individuals were apprehended. Additionally, two others managed to escape into a forest. According to the Kremlin’s report, it seemed that these individuals were also eventually captured.
Khinshtein mentioned discovering a pistol, a magazine for an assault rifle, and Tajikistani passports in the vehicle. Tajikistan, a predominantly Muslim nation in Central Asia, was formerly a part of the Soviet Union.
Daesh has taken accountability for the incident, which marks the most devastating occurrence in Russia since the 2004 Beslan school hostage crisis.
On Friday evening, a shooting incident occurred at Crocus City Hall, a concert venue located west of Moscow. This venue was set to host a Soviet-era rock band’s performance.
The authentic footage displayed attendees settling into their seats within the venue, only to quickly evacuate due to continuous gunshots heard alongside terrified cries. Another video captured men aiming at clusters of individuals. Among the casualties, some victims were found lifeless in puddles of blood.
Abruptly, sounds of gunfire erupted from behind us. A rapid series of shots – I am uncertain of the specifics, shared an anonymous witness with Reuters.
“A sudden rush ensued,” the observer stated. “People hurried towards the escalator,” they added, describing the chaotic scene where everyone was shouting and hastening their steps.
