Romaisa Tariq, a Lahore-based contestant who has reached the Top 16 of Pakistan Idol, says the show has brought a profound transformation to her life. She shared that people now recognise her everywhere, despite her having no formal musical training.
Romaisa credited her sister for encouraging her to pursue singing after hearing her perform at home. Her breakthrough moment came when her rendition of the folk classic “Laung Gawacha” went viral on social media, earning her widespread admiration and boosting her national profile.
Romaisa, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of London, recalled discovering her sudden fame while dining out with friends. She also practices guitar in her free time and has built a strong presence as a social media influencer, enjoying content creation and outings with friends.
Her mother noted that the family comes from a traditional Pashtun background where singing is often discouraged, but firmly stated that nothing would be allowed to hinder her daughter’s dreams.
Romaisa praised the backstage atmosphere of Pakistan Idol, describing it as warm and encouraging, with contestants supporting one another throughout the journey.
As she prepares for the next rounds of the competition, Romaisa has enlisted a long list of friends to help with voting and says she is ready for the challenges ahead. The rising singer is determined to make the most of the opportunity, embracing both the pressure and excitement of the competition. The next episode of Pakistan Idol airs at 8 pm today on Geo TV.
