Floodwaters Surge Across Sindh’s Major Barrages
The Indus River’s water inflow continues to rise at key barrages across Sindh as floodwaters from Punjab make their way downstream. According to the latest report issued by the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), the Guddu Barrage is currently experiencing a high-level flood, with the water flow reaching an alarming 561,000 cusecs.
The situation is also becoming concerning at Sukkur Barrage, where a moderate-level flood has been recorded with water inflow touching 480,000 cusecs. Meanwhile, Kotri Barrage is witnessing a low-level flood, with inflow levels reported at 271,000 cusecs. Authorities are on high alert, closely monitoring the water rise as floodwaters continue to flow into Sindh from the upper catchment areas.
Flood Intensity Varies Across Rivers and Regions
Upstream, a slight drop in the water levels has been observed at Kot Mithan (Rajanpur) and Chachran Sharif on the Indus River, where the water depth has reduced to 11.5 feet, indicating a possible short-term reprieve. However, experts warn that the overall situation remains critical, particularly in low-lying areas vulnerable to overflowing riverbanks.
In the Chenab River, although the water flow at Head Panjnad is gradually decreasing, the volume still remains dangerously high at around 460,000 cusecs, categorizing it as an extremely high flood. The Sutlej River is experiencing a moderate-level flood at Ganda Singh Wala and Head Islam, while Head Sulemanki has registered a low-level flood.
The Ravi River also showed signs of reduced intensity. At Head Sidhnai, the water flow has now decreased to a low-level flood, suggesting a temporary easing of pressure in that region.
Disaster management authorities are urging residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant, as further rainfall or increased upstream discharge could escalate the crisis. Evacuation plans and relief efforts are being coordinated by both provincial and federal agencies to mitigate the impact.
Water inflow continues rising at Sindh’s major barrages; high-level flood recorded at Guddu, with moderate flooding at Sukkur.
