Authorities warn of dangerous water conditions as search enters second day
SWAT: Search and rescue operations continued for a second consecutive day in the Shahi Bagh area of Kalam after a boat capsized, leaving three people missing, including a young brother and sister, officials from Rescue 1122 confirmed on Sunday.
The accident occurred when the boat’s engine failed, causing it to collide with a bridge and overturn in the river. Strong currents and the rugged terrain of the mountainous region have made rescue operations extremely difficult.
Rescue personnel recovered the bodies of two women who died in the incident. The deceased have been identified and their remains have been transported to their hometown in Mardan.
A young boy injured in the incident was treated at a nearby hospital and has since been discharged.
To bolster the ongoing efforts, additional Rescue 1122 teams have been deployed to the site. Search teams continue to comb the area amid treacherous water conditions, which remain highly unpredictable due to recent weather changes and glacial melt.
Authorities have urged tourists and locals to exercise extreme caution while visiting rivers and lakes in the region, emphasizing that even experienced boat operators can be overwhelmed by the volatile currents.
