Karachi: According to the News, the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee unveiled a report on street crimes in Karachi for April 2024.
The report indicates a decrease in the crime rate from 7,539 incidents in March to 5,789 in April.
In April, there were 162 reported cases of robbery, along with 4,184 instances of motorbike theft. Additionally, 1,368 mobile phones were snatched from citizens at gunpoint, as per the report.
Additionally, there were 15 reported cases of extortion and one case of kidnapping for ransom last month. Tragically, 59 citizens lost their lives in various incidents during this period.
Over the past four months, a total of 28,416 major crimes were reported, resulting in 62 citizens losing their lives due to resisting robbery attempts.
Furthermore, 535 cars and 20,152 motorbikes were either stolen or snatched, and 7,470 mobile phones were snatched from citizens by the end of April.
The report also highlights that 40 cases of extortion and six cases of kidnapping for ransom were reported during this period, with a total of 213 citizens losing their lives in various incidents.
On May 7, Karachi police and an intelligence agency conducted a collaborative operation, resulting in the arrest of two individuals purportedly linked to the Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) from the city’s Korangi area.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Korangi, Hassan Sardar, revealed that the apprehended suspects, allegedly trained by RAW, were implicated in targeted killings within Pakistan.
The SSP stated that the detained individuals were identified as Khawar Hussain and Jabir, accused of transmitting details and images related to target killings abroad.
SSP Hassan Sardar mentioned that the suspects were receiving funds from multiple overseas accounts. He noted that further disclosures are anticipated from the arrested individuals as the investigation progresses.
