Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has come under heavy criticism after a video surfaced showing him eating mutton, beef, fish, and paya, despite recently claiming to follow a strict vegetarian lifestyle. The video, which has gone viral on social media, features Ranbir enjoying a family meal with his mother Neetu Kapoor, cousin Kareena Kapoor, and her husband Saif Ali Khan.
The controversy arises during Ranbir’s current shoot for his upcoming film Ramayan, in which he portrays Lord Ram, a Hindu religious epic figure.
Ahead of the shoot, he had announced that he would abstain from all forms of meat, including chicken, as well as alcohol and smoking, to adopt a sattvic lifestyle suitable for the role. His media team reiterated that his dietary and lifestyle changes were strictly for preparing to play the role of Lord Ram.
However, the video in question comes from the show Dining with the Kapoors, created in celebration of Raj Kapoor’s 100th birth anniversary, during the period when Ranbir was already filming Ramayan. In the clip, he can be seen enjoying fish curry with rice, wild mutton, and paya alongside family members.
Social media users have directed much of the criticism toward Ranbir’s PR team, accusing them of misleading the public about his dietary choices. Many pointed out the apparent discrepancy between his claimed lifestyle change and his actions captured on camera.
One user commented, “Ranbir Kapoor’s PR team said he quit non-veg to honour his role as Ram in Ramayan, but here he is eating fish, mutton, and paya with his family.”
