The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted a rain system entering Pakistan on February 18, while intermittent rainfall and snowfall persist across various parts of Azad Kashmir.
According to the Met Office, most regions of the country will experience dry weather today (Monday), with humidity levels ranging between 31% and 35%. The air pollution index in Islamabad currently stands at 152.
Following an extended dry spell, a rain-bearing system is expected to affect the country from February 18 to 20, bringing rainfall to Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, and parts of central Punjab.
The department further stated that most districts in Punjab, including Lahore, will remain cloudy. While there will be a mix of sunshine and clouds today, no rainfall is anticipated, resulting in dry weather conditions.
Lahore experienced slightly chilly weather this morning, with light fog blanketing the city and surrounding areas. Due to low visibility, the M3 section of the motorway has been closed, according to a Motorway Police spokesperson.
Reports suggest that the rain system will enter Pakistan on Tuesday, bringing showers to multiple districts of Punjab. Lahore recorded a minimum temperature of 10ยฐC today, with the maximum expected to reach 25ยฐC.
A strong western weather system is likely to impact up to 80% of northern Pakistan, affecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. This system is expected to bring snowfall to mountainous areas and heavy rain to various regions.
Balochistan is also set to receive significant rainfall, particularly in Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Chagai, Qila Saifullah, Qila Abdullah, Chaman, Pishin, and Khuzdar.
The following minimum temperatures were recorded in key cities:
- Quetta: 0ยฐC
- Kalat: 3ยฐC
- Sibi: 12ยฐC
- Turbat: 18ยฐC
- Nokundi and Gwadar: 16ยฐC
In Sindh, while this system is not expected to bring immediate rain, light drizzle may occur in Sukkur, Larkana, and nearby areas. Karachi is likely to remain dry, with partial cloud cover.
The Met Office forecasts good rainfall across Punjab from February 19 to 21, with central and southern regions expected to witness two to three spells of rain. Similarly, Islamabad is likely to receive multiple spells of rainfall during this period.
