Train Fares
Pakistan Railways has announced an increase in train fares across all services, effective from tomorrow, as stated in a notification issued on Thursday.
The fare adjustment includes a 1% hike for all mail, express, intercity, and passenger trains, including outsourced services.
Additionally, freight and goods trains will see a 2% increase in fares. This move is part of a fare rationalization effort aimed at balancing operational costs and service provisions.
Notifications have been circulated to all stations, booking offices, reservation centers, and relevant staff to implement the new fare structure promptly.
In parallel, Pakistan Railways has intensified efforts to tackle ticketless travel, resulting in the collection of over Rs76 million in fines from offenders over the last six months.
Collaborative efforts between railway police and train personnel have led to the apprehension of 59,143 ticketless passengers. Fines collected have been deposited into the department’s official bank account.
Those caught without tickets are required to pay the full journey fare along with penalties, with non-compliant individuals handed over to railway police for further action.
The crackdown on ticketless travel is not an isolated initiative but part of ongoing efforts to enforce railway regulations rigorously.
Pakistan Railways Police has reported significant enforcement activities, including the arrest of 4,384 individuals involved in rule violations.
Over 3,803 cases have been registered across eight railway divisions, underscoring the nationwide scope of enforcement efforts.
Railway police presence has been strengthened with the establishment of Help Desks at major railway stations nationwide.
Despite resource limitations, the performance of railway police has been commended, with plans underway to further enhance operational efficiency in the coming year.
Looking ahead, Pakistan Railways aims to sustain and improve these enforcement measures to ensure compliance with regulations and enhance passenger safety and service quality across its network.
The ongoing efforts reflect a commitment to operational integrity and service excellence within Pakistan’s railway infrastructure.
