Fairford, RAF AFB: The RAF base in Fairford was witness to a flurry of the arrival of the vintage US bomber Lockheed B-52 here Sunday. According to the sources count, about 23 such bombers are now housed in the RAF base.
It is pertinent to note that these bombers have been recently relocated to the RAF bases including Fairford, after the British PM agreed to cooperate with the US forces in its Iran operations. Previously there has been disagreements and most likely the bombers like the B-2 or B-1 bombers were either routed through the Atlantic corridor or they were deployed through the Pacific Corridors.
The deployment of nearly a squadron of the vintage bomber, seen from perspective the statements about the ground troops to Iran, suggests ‘scorched earth’ strategy likely to be applied to Iran to effect a complete collapse of the clerical regime in Iran. The bombers were deployed last time in 2001 when the Taliban strongholds in Afghanistan and Tora Bora were carpet bombed to ensure complete annihilation of the movement. Later when the JCPOA feel flat during the last Trump era and a sort of uneasy relation continued between Iran and United States, these bombers were usually sent as far as the Persian gulf as part of the show of power tactics. During these intimidatory strikes, these jets were escorted by IDF F-16s, F-15s and corresponding assets from the Royal Saudi Air Force.
