Trump Visit
DOHA: During his diplomatic visit to the Gulf region, U.S. President Donald Trump oversaw a landmark aviation deal on Wednesday between Qatar and American aerospace giant Boeing.
The agreement, signed in the capital city of Doha, marked a major moment in U.S.-Qatar trade relations and signaled Qatarโs commitment to expanding its aviation capabilities.
As part of the deal, Qatar signed a contract to purchase 160 aircraft from Boeing for its flagship carrier, Qatar Airways. The value of the agreement, according to President Trump, exceeds $200 billion, making it one of the largest, if not the largest, commercial aircraft deals in Boeingโs history.
President Trump, alongside Qatarโs Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, attended the signing ceremony, where the two leaders lauded the scale and strategic importance of the transaction.
President Trump emphasized the historic nature of the deal, quoting Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, who reportedly remarked at the event that it represented the “largest order of jets in the history of Boeing.” Trump added, โItโs over $200 billion, but 160 in terms of the jets. Thatโs fantastic. So thatโs a record, Kelly, and congratulations to Boeing. Get those planes out there, get them out there.โ
The deal represents a significant investment in Qatar Airwaysโ fleet expansion and modernization efforts. It also underscores the deepening economic ties between the United States and Qatar, particularly in the areas of defense, aviation, and technology.
The agreement was inked during Trumpโs second stop in his Gulf tour, which began in Saudi Arabia, where he also announced a series of defense and economic agreements.
For Boeing, the Qatar deal is a major commercial triumph, boosting its order books and reinforcing its position as a leading global aircraft supplier. For Qatar, the move enhances its status as a major player in global aviation, with Qatar Airways continuing to grow as one of the worldโs most recognized and awarded airlines.
