Punjab has announced the introduction of a dedicated bus service to provide transportation for women in rural areas. The service will link every rural tehsil to the district headquarters, offering easier travel options for women in these regions.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has called for the development of an “Inter-Village Transport Plan” and directed officials to review a phased proposal for a mass transit system, starting with the deployment of 25 buses.
During the announcement, CM Nawaz emphasized that reliable transportation for rural women is a fundamental right, stressing the urgent need for improved transport options. She expressed concern over the current lack of facilities, describing it as a significant issue.
“It is distressing to see rural women traveling in uncomfortable conditions. A proper transport system will empower them, providing better access for students and female patients,” she stated.
Earlier this year, CM Nawaz also inaugurated Punjab’s first electric bus project in Lahore on February 19.
