The Punjab government is introducing a grading system in the province’s educational institutions to end the competition for marks among students and enable the assessment of children’s abilities in accordance with global standards.
In his remarks to the Inter Board Committee of Chairman (IBCC) meeting, Chief Education Minister Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfraz stated that the province’s examination boards are implementing a grading system to put an end to students competing for the best grades.
Raja Yasir added that various suggestions for enhancing the performance of education boards have already been put into practise, and the provincial government is currently implementing a comprehensive policy for the promotion of education in the province.
Raja Yasir emphasised the necessity of eliminating the root system. There is no shortage of talent in Pakistan, he claimed, but regrettably our educational system is unable to assess student performance in a more effective way.
He continued by saying that because students are competing for grades from Matric to Masters level, it is impossible to assess students’ creativity.
The Minister further stated that in order to assess the true potential of diligent students, the Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen has decided to replace marks with grades in all education boards throughout Pakistan.
