LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government has officially announced that summer vacations in schools across the province will begin on May 28, 2025.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed the decision, stating that all educational institutions will remain closed starting May 28. He also announced revised school timings in light of the rising temperatures: classes will now run from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM until the holidays commence.
Earlier, the Secretary of Schools Education had indicated that summer holidays were scheduled from June 1 to August 9, but hinted that the break could start earlier if temperatures continued to rise. While the revised date has now been confirmed by the minister, an official notification is still awaited.
Education departments in other provinces are also reviewing their schedules for summer breaks, taking Punjab’s decision into account.
Public Holiday on May 28 for Youm-e-Takbeer
Separately, the Sindh government has declared May 28 a public holiday to mark Youm-e-Takbeer, commemorating Pakistan’s historic nuclear tests on the same date in 1998.
A notification issued Monday confirmed that all government offices in Sindh will remain closed on Tuesday, May 28, and schools across the province will also observe the holiday. Normal operations will resume on Wednesday, May 29.
Youm-e-Takbeer is observed nationwide to honor Pakistan’s nuclear capability, developed in response to nuclear tests conducted by India, and is seen as a significant moment in the country’s defense history.
