Punjab Police successfully neutralised four terrorists affiliated with the banned Khawarij group during a high-stakes intelligence-based operation conducted in the Kot Mubarak area of Dera Ghazi Khan on Saturday.
The operation marks a significant victory in the ongoing campaign against terrorism, particularly in the sensitive border region between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to an official spokesperson of Punjab Police, the counter-terrorism action was launched following credible intelligence reports about the movement of terrorists in the vicinity.
The militants were believed to be planning attacks to spread fear and instability in the region. As police teams moved to seal off the suspected hideout, they came under intense gunfire, triggering a fierce and prolonged exchange.
In the ensuing gun battle, four terrorists were killed on the spot. Security forces recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition from the site. However, a few suspects managed to escape by taking advantage of the difficult terrain, using thick bushes and elevated mounds as cover.
A comprehensive search and clearance operation is currently underway to locate and apprehend the fleeing terrorists.
The operation was led on the ground by District Police Officer (DPO) Syed Ali under the strategic supervision of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Captain (retd) Sajjad Hassan Khan. Their coordinated and swift response prevented what could have been a major terror incident.
Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, commended the bravery and professionalism of the law enforcement personnel involved. โPunjab Police continues to serve as an impenetrable shield against terrorism and will never allow anti-state actors to disrupt peace,โ he said.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also applauded the police’s performance, stating, โWe salute the Punjab Police team for their courage and prompt action. Their fearless efforts have once again proven that the nation stands protected by devoted and heroic officers.โ
The successful operation has reinforced public confidence in the police forceโs ability to counter terrorism effectively, especially in high-risk regions like Dera Ghazi Khan, where such threats remain a recurring concern.
