Shab-e-Barat Holiday May Extend Public Break
The Punjab government is considering declaring a public holiday on Wednesday, February 4, on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat. If approved, the decision could result in two consecutive public holidays for residents of the province. Sources said discussions are underway, but no official notification has been issued so far.
If the holiday is formally announced, government employees, private sector workers, students, and business owners will benefit from an extended break. Citizens are closely watching for confirmation, as the potential holiday may allow families to plan religious observances and travel.
Officials said the proposal is under review at the provincial level. The government often declares holidays for major religious occasions. However, authorities clarified that a final decision has not yet been made. Until an official notification is issued, the February 4 holiday remains uncertain.
The possible Shab-e-Barat holiday could combine with upcoming local holidays in Lahore. This has raised expectations of a longer break for many residents. Educational institutions and offices are also awaiting clarity to adjust schedules accordingly.
Lahore to Observe Local Holiday for Basant Festival
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has already approved a local holiday in Lahore on Thursday, February 6. The holiday has been declared for the Basant Festival. The decision was made following recommendations from the Lahore district administration.
Officials said the aim is to facilitate safe and well-organized Basant celebrations. Kite flying and cultural events attract large crowds across the city. Declaring a holiday is expected to reduce workday traffic and allow authorities to focus on security and crowd management.
As part of the plan, Friday has also been declared a holiday in Lahore. Authorities said this step will help minimize congestion and enhance public safety during Basant festivities. The decision will create a long weekend for residents of the provincial capital.
With Thursday and Friday off, followed by the weekend, Lahore is set to observe four consecutive holidays from Thursday to Sunday. The extended break is expected to boost recreational activities and family gatherings in the city.
Authorities Emphasize Safety During Festivities
Alongside holiday announcements, the Lahore administration has issued safety guidelines. The Deputy Commissioner Lahore urged parents to ensure that children under 18 attend Basant celebrations only with family members. Officials stressed the importance of discipline and supervision during festivities.
Authorities also warned against unsafe kite flying practices. Strict action will be taken against violations of safety laws. The administration said public cooperation is essential to ensure peaceful celebrations.
If the Shab-e-Barat holiday is approved, residents may enjoy up to five consecutive holidays in early February. This would combine religious observance with cultural festivities. The Punjab government is expected to issue an official update soon.
Citizens are advised to stay alert for official notifications. Authorities emphasized that all holiday decisions will be communicated through formal channels. The potential extended break has already generated excitement across the province.
