Free Travel Across Major Cities Announced
Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled a comprehensive relief package to support citizens amid ongoing global economic pressures. As part of the initiative, the government has made public transport free across all major cities in Punjab.
The decision covers key transit systems, including the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train, Metro Bus, Speedo Bus and Green Electric Buses. Consequently, commuters can travel without purchasing tickets, reducing daily expenses for thousands of residents.
Moreover, officials stated that the move aims to ease financial burdens while encouraging greater use of public transport. Authorities also expect the initiative to help reduce traffic congestion and fuel consumption across urban centres.
Fuel Subsidies and Farmer Support Included
In addition, the relief package extends financial assistance to farmers and motorcycle owners. The government will provide farmers with cash support alongside a diesel subsidy of Rs100 per litre per acre to sustain agricultural activity and safeguard food security.
Furthermore, registered motorcycle owners will receive a subsidy of Rs100 per litre on up to 20 litres of fuel, offering targeted relief to daily commuters. Officials emphasised that these measures aim to offset rising fuel costs and stabilise household expenses.
Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz urged citizens to utilise the free transport facilities and benefit from the support programmes. She reiterated the governmentโs commitment to introducing further measures to protect vulnerable groups during challenging economic conditions.
As the package takes effect, authorities will monitor its impact to determine potential expansion and long-term policy adjustments.
