LAHORE: A comprehensive security and traffic management plan has been rolled out ahead of Eid ul-Adha to prevent cattle theft, manage traffic, and curb fare overcharging across Punjab. The announcement was made by Regional Patrolling Officer (RPO) Saleem Khan Niazi on Wednesday.
As part of the plan, the Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) will deploy teams to maintain law and order around mosques, Eidgahs, and Imambargahs during Eid prayers. Special attention is being given to highways, where the movement of sacrificial animals has significantly increased in the lead-up to the festival.
To combat cattle theft and unauthorized transportation, patrolling teams will inspect vehicles carrying animals. Transporters must carry valid documentation and transit permits to avoid legal action. Mobile checkpoints are being established at strategic locations to screen for criminal activity and ensure smooth traffic flow.
RPO Niazi said patrolling units will remain operational 24/7 during the Eid holidays to assist and guide the public, with citizens encouraged to report any suspicious activity or need for help via the helpline 1124.
Additionally, citizens are advised to follow prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during the purchase and sale of sacrificial animals to ensure safety and order.
The RPO also issued a stern warning to transporters against fare gouging. A crackdown is currently underway, and legal action will be taken against those found charging passengers excessively during the holiday period.
The initiative aims to ensure a peaceful and safe Eid for all citizens across Punjab.
