LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government is launching the second phase of the Chief Minister’s Asaan Karobar Finance Scheme, following the successful completion of its initial phase. The ambitious program aims to provide Rs90 billion in interest-free loans through four loan schemes, directly benefiting more than 5,500 businesses across the province.
An important review meeting was held at the Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) House to evaluate PSIC’s performance and progress on ongoing projects. Officials highlighted the government’s continued commitment to entrepreneurship, small-scale industries, and artisans, ensuring that financial support and infrastructure development remain central priorities.
Industrial Estate Upgradation
One of the key initiatives announced was the comprehensive upgradation of 23 small industrial estates across Punjab. Starting in October, the Rs2.75 billion project will focus on modernizing infrastructure, improving cleanliness, developing green belts, and filling gaps in essential facilities. The move is expected to significantly boost the competitiveness of small-scale industries.
Handicrafts and Exports
The promotion of traditional handicrafts also remained a major agenda item. Authorities stressed the importance of digital platforms and e-commerce to expand market access for artisans and enhance foreign exchange earnings. Directions were issued to engage Pakistani embassies abroad in promoting PSIC handicraft shops, helping showcase local products at the international level.
The meeting also encouraged the exploration of solar energy solutions for industrial estates, ensuring sustainability and cost efficiency in the long run.
Pending Projects and Artisan Development
Progress on the Surgical City in Sialkot and Industrial Estate-II in Gujrat was discussed, with instructions to resolve pending legal issues promptly.
PSIC Managing Director Saira Umar shared updates on artisan development efforts, including the successful registration of artisans to promote traditional crafts and the recent upgradation of Gandhara Artisan Village in Taxila, which has already started benefiting local craftsmen.
The scheme, along with complementary industrial and artisan development initiatives, reflects the Punjab government’s resolve to foster sustainable growth, strengthen small industries, and empower the province’s business community.
