Mini Budget
LAHORE: In a recent development, the Punjab government has decided to present a short-term mini-budget, citing reliable sources. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has reportedly instructed the province’s finance ministry to formulate this mini-budget.
Sources indicate that a session of the Punjab Assembly has been scheduled for the coming week to facilitate the budget proceedings. During this session, the assembly is expected to grant approval for the mini-budget, with a subsequent special report presented to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Further details reveal that the Finance Minister will be responsible for presenting the mini-budget in the Punjab Assembly after obtaining the necessary approval from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
This decision follows the recent presentation of the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra. The KP budget boasts a total outlay of Rs1332 billion, as announced during the budget session of the KP Assembly.
Minister Jhagra highlighted that despite facing challenges, the budget allocates Rs319.2 billion for the development portfolio, with only Rs8 billion expected under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
It is noteworthy that the 18-member cabinet of Punjab recently took the oath at a ceremony held in the Governor House in Lahore.
Punjab Governor Baligh Ur Rehman administered the oath to the newly appointed ministers, including Maryam Aurangzeb, Aashiq Kirmani, Kazim Pirzada, Rana Sikander Hayat, Khawaja Salman Rafique, Khawaja Imran Nazir, Zeeshan Rafique, Bilal Akbar, Sohail Shaukat, Azma Bukhari, Bilal Yasin, Ramesh Singh Arora, and others.
This development reflects a significant step in the provincial government’s leadership under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
