ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government has decided to send a formal recommendation to the federal government, urging a ban on Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). According to official sources, the provincial authorities argue that the groupโs activities pose a serious threat to law and order in Punjab.
Concerns Over Law and Order Situation
Sources revealed that the provincial governmentโs recommendation emphasizes the urgent need for federal action. It calls for declaring TLP a banned organization under national security laws to prevent further unrest and ensure public safety.
Leaders to Be Placed Under Surveillance
The proposal suggests placing the central and district leadership of TLP in the Fourth Schedule under the Anti-Terrorism Act. This step would allow the government to monitor their movements, gatherings, and financial activities more effectively.
Assets and Properties to Be Seized
According to the recommendation, all offices, properties, and other assets owned by individuals linked to TLP will be transferred to the Auqaf Department. The move aims to prevent the organization from using its resources for political or militant purposes.
Ban on Promotional and Social Media Activities
The government has also decided to ban all promotional activities of TLP across Punjab. Authorities will remove posters, banners, wall chalking, and advertisements related to the organization. Moreover, all TLP social media accounts will be shut down, and the bank accounts of associated individuals will be frozen.
Government Justifies Tough Measures
Officials maintain that incitement, violence, and hate campaigns against state institutions under the guise of religion cannot be tolerated. The government believes that decisive action is essential to restore peace and stability in the province.
Previous Ban Under Imran Khanโs Government
It is noteworthy that the federal government led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan had also banned TLP in April 2021. The move came after violent nationwide protests against the French ambassador, which resulted in several deaths and multiple injuries among law enforcement officials. The ban was later lifted following political negotiations.
