The Punjab government, led by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), has introduced advanced electronic traffic enforcement to address traffic violations.
Under new directives, citizens will now receive electronic challans with photographic proof and substantial fines for infractions, utilizing cutting-edge artificial intelligence and camera technology.
The Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has instructed transport authorities to target vehicles emitting excessive smoke, using sophisticated Punjab Safe City Cameras in Lahore. These cameras, equipped with AI technology, monitor and detect smoke levels from a range of vehicles including trucks, buses, cars, wagons, motorcycles, and auto-rickshaws.
In response to these measures, Lahore Traffic Police have already issued hundreds of challans for high smoke emissions. Each electronic ticket includes a photo of the offending vehicle in the act of emitting smoke. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enforce traffic regulations and protect the environment through the use of modern technology. Senior Minister Punjab, Maryam Aurangzeb, emphasized that this approach not only supports environmental protection but also ensures adherence to traffic rules by leveraging advanced surveillance and detection systems.
