The Punjab government has officially announced public holidays on December 25 and December 26, 2025, following an official notification reported by 24NewsHD. The decision allows citizens and employees to observe both national and religious occasions while maintaining essential services across the province.
December 25: Quaid-e-Azam Day
December 25 will be observed as a province-wide public holiday to commemorate the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. The day is celebrated nationwide to honour his contributions to the creation of Pakistan and his vision for the country.
Official notifications confirm that all government offices, educational institutions, and non-essential services will remain closed in Punjab on this day. Essential services, such as healthcare and emergency services, will continue to operate to ensure public convenience.
December 26: Boxing Day
The following day, December 26, has been declared a special public holiday for the Christian community to mark Boxing Day. The holiday provides Christian citizens an opportunity to celebrate the day after Christmas and participate in cultural and religious observances.
The Punjab government has issued official notifications detailing that this holiday is specifically for Christian employees, while essential services will remain operational.
Sindh Also Observes Both Holidays
Earlier, the Sindh government announced December 25 and 26 as public holidays across the province. According to notifications issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department, December 25 will be observed across Sindh for all employees, except those in essential services. December 26 is designated for Christian employees to celebrate Boxing Day.
These coordinated announcements across Punjab and Sindh ensure that employees have the opportunity to observe significant national and religious events while maintaining the continuity of critical services. The dual holidays reflect the countryโs recognition of its diverse cultural and religious communities.
